BDS College Admission

Bachelor of Dental Surgery is the full form of the commonly used term BDS. Students pursue this course after successful completion of 12th standard. The course duration is of 5 years, of which 4 years of study and 1 year of internship. The first two years are for basic study of medical science. In the next two years students expose themselves to clinical environments and patient treatment. Fifth year is for the internship, i.e. working under a doctor in treating patients.

The mouth is the mirror of the well-being of a human being. Mouth has to be clean and hygienic for overall health.

Different colleges and different universities follow different rules and regulations for admission in BDS Course. Difference in admission procedure will be there but some general rules are there that universities or colleges consider for admission in BDS.

BDS entrance exams are in the month of April or May. Various entrance exams are as AIPMT, AIIMS, AFMC, and MP DMAT etc. Leading newspapers and internet will have all the information regarding how and where to apply. The candidate appearing for BDS entrance must have minimum 17 years of age, with physics, chemistry and biology in 12th standard. Minimum of 50% marks is also necessary. For admission in BDS candidate has to appear in entrance examination and pass with good score. However some institutes ask for Personal Interview (PI) for admission. Successful candidates appear for counseling.

After the successful completion of the course, candidate gets BDS degree. BDS degree means the person is a socially acceptable dentist who can treat patients in a better way. However, person has to work hard for securing a seat due to the huge competition and even put it lots of effort for studying for number of years to complete the course successfully.

Due to wide number of career choices in BDS field, more and more students are pursuing this course. After BDS degree, person can work in government, private, army or can even set up own clinic and enjoy the life at per his/her own work timings. BDS is a profitable career in today’s time. With the growing demand for dentists, more and more students appear for entrance exams every year to secure a seat in a reputed college or university.
